The corner stand at the 17th Street Farmers Market was very strange. One thing that I noticed straight off the bat was him saying see the dirt on the produce thats how you know its local. Rosa and her sister where saying the same exact thing. The further I moved down the stand I started noticing the stickers on some things. When I got to the bananas I knew everything wasn't grown from his "farm". I asked again if he grew everything on the table and if he didn't buy some of it and he still assured me EVERYTHING was grown by him even ass he was dumping florida oranges on to the shelves of his booth. I never knew produce grew a barcode. The cucumbers and squash looked as they had been waxed and picked up from Kroger. The tomatoes may have been grown by him seeing as the colors where orange and not that perfect color and shape you find in the grocery store. How ever between the small red potatoes that looked like they came from a bag, the waxed veggies, and dole barcodes on over half of his stand it was impossible to trust he grew anything.

Rosa and her Sister Continued
From the video I posted before I talked about my immediate reaction of Rosa and her sisters stand. They have a farm out in Henrico that doesn't really have a name its just the family farm. One thing she said to me that I thought was very interesting was the uglier the cucumber the sweeter it tastes. I immediately bought a cucumber so that I can test that out. I will keep you posted on that experiment. over all her food looked healthy and colorful. She promised there was no chemicals used on anything, no waxing done, just love and care that comes from years of working on the small family farm.
